Incident Command Systems (ICS) 100 & 200
(For Professionals: Schools and Private Agencies)
The overall goal of ICS-100 is to promote effective response by familiarizing you with how Incident Command System (ICS) principles are used to manage incidents and by preparing you to coordinate with response partners from all levels of government and the private sector. ICS-100.b follows the National Incident Management System (NIMS) guidelines. ICS-200 is designed to enable personnel to operate efficiently during an incident or event within the Incident Command System (ICS) and focuses on the management of single resources.
Bullying Awareness, Prevention, and Intervention Techniques
(For Parents, Professionals, and Students)
The cyber world means a victim can never escape bullying. In this training, we define various bullying behaviors and explore national trends, identify methods to recognize a bully, learn effective intervention strategies, and discuss how to respond to and deal with a bystander. Learn a variety of methods to incorporate school-wide prevention strategies that support current activities and effective strategies you can use to address specific bullying problems you may be facing.
Team Building Workshops
(For All Ages—Adults and Students)
Our team building workshops are custom designed, experience-based learning, that addresses a variety of topics including leadership, communication, decision making, problem solving and trust. Participants will leave with a new perspective and some practical tools that they can use in their daily activities.
Conflict Resolution Skills
(For All Ages—Adults and Students)
Many times, minor situations can quickly escalate between students, students and staff, and staff and parents. Through this training, learn de-escalation techniques, the importance of active listening, and how to communicate with a hostile child/person or situation.
Creating Successful and Impactful Community Partnerships
This training will teach you effective skills for bringing key partners to the table and provide you with tips and strategies on how to successfully engage partners. We will discuss the value of true collaboration and give practical examples of how our partnerships have led to strong positive outcomes for youth.
(For Professionals and Parents)
This training focuses on preventing a crisis by using proven strategies to safely de-escalate volatile situations and manage violent behavior before it erupts. You may choose from the following sessions:
- Half Day De-escalation Skill building – Learn to recognize the stages of crisis to better understand how to respond and learn practical skills that will allow you to safely defuse crisis situations.
- Full-Day and Two- Day Crisis Prevention and Intervention Workshops – Learn strategies for effectively responding to both reactive and aggressive children, as well as the importance of non-verbal communication. Participants will also have a framework for how to teach coping skills post-crisis.
(For Youth, 4th grade and up)
It has been our experience that youth are usually aware of a peer conflict long before adults and can, therefore, intervene and mediate situations before they become volatile. As a result, we created an effective peer mediation program. Our trained professionals will teach the value of peer mediation and what is needed to implement this program and provide training to participants regarding active listening, effective communication techniques, how to explore solutions, and the importance of resolution.
Positive Behavioral Intervention Support (PBIS)
(For Elementary and Middle Schools)
This program provides training on the core concepts of the operational elements and guiding principles of School Wide Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports (PBIS). Consistent with the National PBIS Center, this training focuses on using data for decision-making and the development and importance of action planning with school teams to implement PBIS with fidelity.
School Resource Officer Training, Facilitating and Implementation
(For Police Officers)
This training is offered by retired police officers.
The "triad concept" of the School Resource Officer (SRO) has been proven to be successful in assisting schools, law enforcement, and communities nationwide. We have helped facilitate the creation and training of the largest group of School Resource Officers (SROs) in New York State, outside of New York City. Taught by retired police officers, learn how to obtain and sustain SROs in your communities:
- Create partnerships with local law enforcement agencies and schools
- Use a uniformed police officer in a school setting
- Create roles and responsibilities for the officer
- Effectively handle jurisdiction
After School Program Development
A step-by-step guide to creating and implementing your own student supported and operated teen center. Develop fun, semi-structured programs that are the result of community collaborations and partnerships that create a fully functional space based on the needs and desires of teens. We will share our collaboration, partnership, and funding strategies, our teen driven philosophy, and how to use the New York State After School model as a foundation for Teen Center programming.
Fill an essential niche in your community by developing a teen center that fosters teen leadership and community involvement, and forms meaningful partnerships with local youth-serving non-profits.
Creating and Sustaining Successful Outcome Based Programs and Services
As one of only a few original federal Safe Schools Initiatives, to sustain itself, we have become an expert at applying evidence- and research-based programs to meet specific needs. Learn how to model a data-driven approach and adapt proven programs and services to fit your needs. We will share the strategies that have allowed us to become an outcome-based and data-driven agency that meets the needs of youth and families in our region.
Effective Youth Diversion Services
We have developed successful strategies that address three critical primary areas that threaten student/school success and graduation rates: attendance, behavior, and academic performance.
Learn how we successfully used our local juvenile assessment team to identify needs that affect these 3 areas and how we identified evidence- and research-based programs that have proven successful. We will share our wrap-around approach that provides a continuum of services, with dramatic effects on attendance, behavior and academic performance.
