Utica GEAR UP in DC
July 30, 2014
Congressman Richard Hanna met with Utica GEAR UP representatives to discuss how the program supports low-income students and their families on their journey to succeed in college and beyond.
The program is a federally funded partnership between Mohawk Valley Community College, Utica City School District, Utica Safe Schools, Workforce Investment Board, Mohawk Valley Community Action Agency, Oneida County Government, Mohawk Valley Resource Center for Refugees, and other local organizations. GEAR UP has helped so many students in our community become academically, financially and socially prepared to enter and complete college.
A quality education is one of the single most important factors in determining an individual's success in life. Programs like GEAR UP help ensure that every child has an equal chance to obtain a high quality college education.
